Let's not be at all surprised that Brandi Chastain said something not-so-supportive about Greg Ryan. She was basically shown the door when Ryan took over for April Heinrichs.

To her credit, she admits that in her story. I covered the USWNT before a friendly against Brazil in NOLA and Chastain was very cooperative. Heck, they all were. Mia Hamm was a little tough to deal with but that was because of the gaggle effect, nothing that she did.

Not surprised at all. Did you hear Foudy during the broadcast? She was trying, but in the last 20 minutes she gave up trying to contain her disbelief over Ryan's decisions. And she was right. Who the fuck brings in two defenders when you're down that far? Better to lose 5-1 than put up the goose egg.

I figured Chastain would be upfront, Del. Come to think of it, the cooperation that was shown throughout that '99 squad was a big key to their success.

Throwing out a badly overused term, that team got it.

I'm not bashing Chastain at all. Just saying that no one should be surprised that she wouldn't mind seeing Ryan go. What helps back her is that Foudy and Hamm agree.

In hindsight, I did understand the substitution to better mark Marta, who was pretty much slicing up the U.S. by herself.

But another defensive substitution? Yeah ... pretty dumb. Kate Markgraf's ankle was a mess, but even Julie Foudy was fairly certain Markgraf would have gladly marched on had they wanted to bring in, say, Lindsay Tarpley to get more pressure up front.

I can't believe you people are offended by Solo's comments!

Would this have been better: "Coach has to do what he thinks is best for the team. Whatever Coach says."

I guess it's okay with you guys, too, if everybody fucking takes it one game at a time and gives 100 and 10 fucking percent !!!!!!!

And why do you people hate America?

    Potty mouth...

I'm not offended. Personally I think it's great. And she's right, the coach is an idiot.

Hear, hear. It's always refreshing when someone actually says what they think instead of the textbook Public Relations 101 answer.

The ripping of the coach was candid and justified. The ripping of a teammate was classless and selfish..

I thought it was especially funny when they defended old teammate Scurry, and when Chastain said "Oh, I talked to Mia, and she is upset too." I see. Good for Silver for verifying that before putting it in the lead . . . . . oh wait, he didn't.

I also liked how they were acting like the U.S. never lost a game when they played. "There's a sense of entitlement. . .but I don't mean the players!!'" Then who do you mean? The U.S. finished third last time, and in 1995. Was there a sense of entitlement then? What about the 2000 silver medal?

Of course there wasn't. And it's hilarious that Chastain is just piling on, when without the bra, she would be a footnote to that generation of soccer. Other than marrying her old college soccer coach, which of course didn't make her unique.
