I also enjoy the scene in U.S. Marshals when the local chief starts trying to give instructions and he’s screwing up and stuttering and Gerard corrects him on how many miles the perimeter should be set up and then the guy gives up and lets Gerard take over.

I guess the FBI smelled something fishy when they looked at this college recruiting class and saw The New Kids that were coming in.

Confirmation that we made the right decision about not having kids. I don’t know how the breeders handle this stuff.

Also, a prime example of how the American system is rigged and we need a sea change.

I dunno, I don't think Lori Loughlin's kid gives a good goddamn about any of it. I'd be shocked if she didn't know about it. I suspect it's the same for many, though probably not all, of the rest of them. You think some dumbass who scored 1000 on his SAT believed he got into Harvard on merit?

Am I the only person who doesn't know who the fuck Lori Laughlin is or was?
My father went from very meager origins to an Ivy and had great disdain for it, wound up transferring.
I never saw the appeal in a prestige school.

Apparently not, given the number of times her name has been misspelled on this thread

I know this is sort of the opposite of what happened here, but I knew a kid who was on a tennis team at a Division I school. She was a decent player in high school, playing first singles on a state championship team, She won more than she lost, but she was not quite up to the standard of what it takes to play Division I tennis. (Of course, high school results in tennis and many other sports are meaningless in college recruiting these days. It's the USTA ranking that really matters) She rarely, if ever, played in a varsity match.

She was, however, an excellent student. Her high school coach told me that the reason she was on that team was to keep the team's GPA up.

Is anyone else familiar with that phenomenon? It it something many Division I programs do?

Before I retired, I was the boss at a job where I hired folks for decent entry level jobs. Entry level was 65K with guaranteed promotion up to 80K after 5 years or so if you did not fuck up. It also had promotional opportunities to management where you could earn six figures. Decent benefits.

The prerequesite was an undergraduate degree. This was in SoCal so we would get applicants from Cal State schools and also some from UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, Loyola and not infrequently, University of Phoenix, et al.

My management team and I used a one hour skill based interview to judge each applicant. Where you got your degree, or your GPA did not factor into the hiring process. Over fifteen years or so we hired better people than others in the organization who gave more credit to resumes.
