Bridge collapse in MSP

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Gutter, Aug 1, 2007.

  1. And that, slap, is how nobody ever gets held responsible for anything, and then people conclude that "government"-- which is, you know, We, The People -- doesn't work because nobody ever gets held responsible for anything.
I don't know where the chips might fall. Let's investigate and see. But, like it or not, "politics"is how that bridge was built, and how it was (or was not) maintained, and "politics"is the arena within which we will find out what happens.

I'm all for waiting to see where the chips fall. Unfortunately, in our 24-hour news cycle, it seems anymore want blame assessed now, so we can move on to the next crisis.

By the way, congrats to our colleagues at the Twin Cities papers. From what I've seen online, an excellent job of coverage. Strib's front page was sensational this morning.

OK. Pinpoint the blame. On whose watch did it occur and why?

Cant get the Strib to come up... overload?

  8. In the specific, I have no fucking idea.Let's investigate and see.
In the general, I blame politicians of both parties for abandoning the crumbling infrastructure as a serious national issue, and for ignoring Gary Hart 20 years ago when he warned that the bills are coming due. I blame the people who don't vote for giving us those politicians, and I blame them both for ducking and dodging the notion that it's going to cost an awful lot of money to shore this stuff up.

The general was kinda where I was headed. There's more than enough to share all the way around.

    *heavy sigh*

Ya know guys, I realize that there are some here who just can't wait to get down and dirty into a massive political pissing match -- and that's fine, go for it -- but could you take it to a different thread in respect for those of us who have been shaken by this disaster?

I'm still waiting to hear from some of my HS classmates, and it would just be a show of respect if you could at least wait till the bodies are out of the river before tearing each other apart.

Trust me, by the time this is over there will be more than enough blame to go around on all sides.

I want to make it clear, I'm not singling any one person out, this is a general request. Thank you.

The operative phrase in my reply, or at least the one I think should be used, is "at this point."

The blame game from politicians can wait. If they're doing it 12 hours after the collapse, it's pure partisan fingerpointing and a powerplay.
