Bridge collapse in MSP

  2. No, it's focusing the attention where and when it belongs, before this event disappears into the 24-hour media maw. In retrospect, I wish we'd had some more fingers pointed more quickly after 9/11. An awful lot of people skated on that one because we all decided to wait a decent interval and marinate in our shock.

Yes. It's much better to start spouting off with misinformation, assumptions and presumptions than to, you know, actually have a clue or an answer to what you are talking about.

Fenian, sorry the world doesn't operate as fast as you want it to.

And, before anyone asks: Yes, I wish someone other than GWB was president, too. But I don't think Al Gore, John Kerry or Bill Clinton would have prevented this bridge from falling down.

Yes, because that's exactly what i was suggesting.
    Jesus.
You tell me, then. What's the statute of limitations? Do we all wait like good little nice people, far too smart to be involved in anything as useless as politics, while the documents get shredded and the cover stories get constructed, and the lies get out there so far ahead that the truth never catches up. That, of course, is the best way to run a country. Be too noble to want to know the truth of things.

I don't know what the statute of limitations is. But I want to know why the bridge fell before I assign blame.

    12 hours is too soon.

    48 hours, perhaps not.

but if anyone is finger pointing without a precise idea why the bridge fell and trying to assign blame to one party, president or administration, I think that person is more concerned with smearing than with having a system that works for the people.

Oh, and Flip Saunders was withing a 3-point shot of the collapse.

Rosie, I've been shaken too because no one's heard from my sister. Which is par for the course for the life she's chosen with my BIL, but still no ones heard.
And while I agree with Fen on a lot of things, my tude on this is "ok, it's broken/ We need to fix it and other pieces of the infrastructure before another one happens. If the people in charge at local and state and national levels won't make it happen, then lets get people in who will."

Problem with that is infrastructure is out of sight and out of mind until there's a problem. And unless there's a problem, no one wants to pay for it, so it gets put on the back burner. Rinse, wash, repeat...

Of course the prez is going to be responsive to the bridge disaster - I'm not saying the response would be different if it happened elsewhere, but the GOP picked the Twin Cities for their GOP convention because they thought the state was "in play."

And I know I'm doomed to hell, but I'm already sick of the "heroes" stories that seem to be playing on an endless loop. I guess there isn't anything else reporters can get?

It's been slow all day. Heck, last night at 1:30 a.m. it was still slow. They're getting a ton of hits.

Rosie and Slappy _ hope you find out good news on everyone you know.

There's video?! Just caught hold of that. FOX is showing it. It really was a quick break.

These things have happened about once every 10 years for the last 50 years. Why do I doubt that there will be some big change in how bridges are cared for.
    Here's a choice:
    Would you rather:
drive over a structurally deficient bridge or spend an extra 30 minutes in traffic?
