I think Illinois roads are infinitely better than Missouri but I haven't driven up in the Kirksville area. Southwest Missouri, Mid-Missouri, Stl, and KC roads are crappy. I can't imagine the northern part of the state being better.

  2. If Illinois roads are better than Missouri roads, that's a pretty damming indictment of MODOT, et al.

  3. I thought Iowa's were pretty decent when I was last there.

During every Governor election, we listen to the whole spiel about how they're going to fix the roads, and inevitably, they all cut the road budget so nothing gets fixed. I mean, I'm 24 and I-70 has been under construction in the same places for as long as I can remember.

At least the bridge going into Jefferson City is only functionally obsolete because the lanes are so wide, it doesn't give cars enough room to pull over if needed.

Maybe they will use some of that surplus. Don't know, it's early in the process.

They could have done something years ago, but that tax thing, well...can't get on a national stage with that, you know.

  6. Apparently the tax burden was high enough (or spending low enough) to create a substantial surplus, no?

What's the latest on this? The last I read they were talking about a part of the bridge that fell somewhat differently than the rest of it.

    L_B,

Because there was a surplus this spring, that wipes clean the fact that some in MnDOT were "screaming" to repair or replace some bridges, and the funding was denied? Read what I linked.

Read what the Governor said when he vetoed the bills. He was positioning himself for move up.

The south side shifted 50 feet to the east when it went down.

  10. To run for what? President? Senate?

Google it. Lots of stuff has been written about it before this.

Not really. The surplus was created originally by the tobacco lawsuit money.
