yes, it's up to people. and people have proven, ad nauseam, that they are in no way capable of using them within the law. is it right that the upstanding gun owners be denied their right because of the idiots who abuse the privilege? no. but i'm okay with pissing off gun lovers if it means not worrying about some a--hole pulling a gun out 'cause he thinks i cut him off on the highway, or looked at him funny in a bar, or 'cause he had a bad day at the office.

what, really, is the argument against this line of thinking?

 

I hestitate to say this, Boom might be right. You don't hear of as many drive-bys at honkytonks or Irish pubs as you do at urban hip-hop clubs.

 

Oh, they are entertaining. Makes driving to Champaign and beyond always a lot of fun.

 

I think those that frequent honkytonks at least have a much greater respect for guns and the damage that their misuse can cause. As many of you know, I live right smack in the middle of huntin' country. The respect that people have for guns is much greater than what I saw back when I lived in urban Indiana.

We need to take away the guns and the drugs. Bottom line.

Let me give you a hypothetical.

Let's just say that all the sudden, we made it illegal to own guns of any kind. If you get caught with a gun, you get 10 years in prison. No questions, no arguments, no compromises. It's 10 years -- cut and dried. Same with drugs.

What do you think would happen to crime rates?

Sorry hunters, but fuck you. I'd just as soon see us vigiliantly take away guns from people. So you don't get to hunt anymore. Boo-fucking-hoo. Let's save lives.

 

Punish law-abiding citizens because of the actions of a few? Okay. Let's outlaw cigarettes completely because second-hand smoke kills thousands each year. Let's outlaw alcohol so drunk-drivers won't be wiping people out. And, hell, let's outlaw cars because street racers might crash into a minivan filled with a family.

 

If you can't distinguish between guns and cigarettes/alcohol/vehicles, you're not smart enough to be posting on this board.
