Calling the debt ceiling raise a compromise is like compromising with a 5-year-old by getting him a sword instead of the machine gun he actually wanted.

Sean Hannity is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.

Even the folks who have put in for earmarks would never trade their (already on the record) vote for one.

The "Cornhusker Kickback" and "Louisiana Purchase" were the kind of things that fueled the "Tea Party".

Securing their own version in return for a vote change would be suicide. They'd be done. History.

Plus, these "Tea party" guys are more vulnerable to a primary challenge than anyone if they break their "pledge".

"Tea part" candidates are a dime a dozen. You could swing a dead cat and come up with enough to run in primaries.

It's not like the current "Tea Party" members have years of service and trust to fall back on. They don't have leadership positions. And, it's not like they have huge fundraising operations. (And what they do have would be gone with such a deal.)

All they have is a voting record to compare to their campaign record.

So, that's not how a deal will get done.

    True.

    True.

False. They have huge, free-of-charge fundraising operations called talk radio and Fox News.

As we reach the deadline before America defaults on its debt, it's easy to get worried about what may happen. To soothe our fears, Jimmy Fallon once again invited special guest Brian Williams for one of the signature bits of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," Slow Jam the News.

Under an R&B beat provided by The Roots, Fallon and the NBC Nightly News anchor explained what this debt crisis is all about, with a little editorializing. It's always a pleasure to see Williams join Fallon for Slow Jam the News, and in times when the news can get depressing, we need sultry crooning about credit defaults more than ever. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/30/jimmy-fallon-and-brian-williams-slow-jam-the-news_n_914015.html

For the most part, they were outspent whether they ran against incumbent Republicans in a primary or a sitting Democrat.

And what fundraising they did have would evaporate if they caved on this vote.

No Senate vote tonight on a Democratic bill. Delayed until 8 a.m. MDT Sunday.

The Sunday talk shows should be in more of a deep lather than usual.

Please sight some specifics where earmarks have benefited Tea Party Congressmen.
Most have only been in office since January.

They were outspent, but the beneficiaries of free publicity from talk radio and Fox News that far outweighed what they could have spent. That's my point.

FOX News & national syndicated radio shows rarely focus on individual House raises.

In some cases, outside groups -- Dick Armey's group or the Club for Growth -- spent money, but it would all be gone if they caved.

So instead of being elected to serve the nation, they were elected to get re-elected.
