I have to believe that even true-blue (red?) Republicans, in their heart of hearts, know that the above statement comes at least with the caveat of: Except in the times of crippling depression. I mean. Keynes isn't exactly a new name on the block. Maybe I'm wrong.... (OR, said maybe a better way, I can see Republicans arguing for less regulation of the economy to shrink government and boost the economy, but they don't believe in the heart of hearts that less government spending right now is a good economic idea. I refuse to believe they're that bereft of basic macroeconomic knowledge and common sense. Maybe I'm wrong.).

Reading that this bill doesn't really please either Dems or Republicans strikes me as good news. They'd never both like something, so this is the next best thing.

Let's see. One wing wanted a plan that cut spending and ended tax loopholes and cuts for the millionaires who are shipping any jobs they are creating overseas. The other wing wanted a plan that was just cuts that would affect seniors, the disabled, our soldiers and the less-fortunate.

    Who do you root for?

Fact: many a nimrod proclaimed this party all but dead and regional two years ago. It's in a very good position to hand this president his library-planning time in 15 months. Then what's he going to do? He's alienated his liberal base. No one outside of Europe will pay to hear him speak.

And remember this: Obama had NO INTEREST AT ALL in working with nothing more than a filibustering minority for two years. Pride cometh before the fall. His arrogance and that of his left-wing buddies gave birth to the Tea Party.

You know Nimrod was a great hunter in the Bible, right?

It's pretty clear there is no left wing in Washington after today's vote. Keep bringing up the boogeyman though.

Just rediscovered this thread. Gonna cancel DirecTV. This is better than Comedy Central. And cheaper.

Almost as good as those JRC/Trentonian threads back in the day.

You're right, it's more about the debt ceiling issue than it is the negotiation timing.

Since you used the union comparison, I wonder how many union-employer negotiations have featured one side arguing that some outstanding bills shouldn't be paid because the company had been in debt for too long.

I don't know much about this history of these type of negotiations, but that seems ridiculous, especially if you're a business owner.

How about if that company is deficit-spending into oblivion...spending 40 percent more than it takes in on a monthly basis? I would hope someone would put a halt to it...or that company would not be around long.
