Budget talks: This is getting nasty

Improving the economy increases revenue but doesn't help eat into the government debt, at least not much. If the economy improves, theoretically more people will return to work and be able to pay taxes and buy things. But the taxes they pay are minimal compared to the taxes that Big Business and the richest 1 percent should be paying. And a healthier economy just helps Big Business and the wealthy make MORE money. Money they'll use to buy more influence in Congress. Round and round and round it goes.

 

Yeah, well, after this whole episode, it's for who the bell tolls for the middle class.

 

How, exactly, did I underestimate the tea partiers? I just said one atop the ticket would energize the liberal base.

 

They died today, or have been made Reaganesque weak. In two years at that. I'd call 'em cowards if I were you.

 

But the base is kind of fragmented right now. Some of the other "base" didn't exactly get fired up for McCain, even with Obama and Hillary on the other side.

 

Beautiful moment but can't help but feel that Gabby Giffords was used.

I was prepared to say that, but she looked really good.

 

I'm on Obama's side ... well, theoretically at least ... and I agree that there needed to be cuts. Of course, there needed to be stimulus in certain areas too, but between the wars and some waste, they probably could have cut more than they spent in terms of balancing stimulus and cuts.

 

Two years? Ha. There's been no left with any sway since LBJ. It's a fucking farce.
