Just off the top of my head:
    1 - Closed Gitmo
2- Held domestic trials for terrorists
3 - Amended Bush draconian wire tap laws
4 - Ended Bush tax cuts for the "rich"
5 - Wound down Afghanistan war
6- Forged close ties between academic elite of Harvard
    and Cambridge PD
7 - Came out in support of gay marriage

    Exactly.

And don't forget how he repealed the Patriot Act; cracked down on Wall Street and engineered cradle-to-grave single-payer health care.

    He should champion school uniforms.

    That's always a winner.

No. 4 didn't happen. They didn't end. So that's what? Invisible red meat?

The whole list is sarcastic, Alma.

All of which also goes to make the point that for all the howling on the right about what an "ultraliberal" he is, this president has been another centrist. He's no farther left than Nixon. In fact, there is no "left" in this country.

There's a left. You just don't find many who tread that way elected to Washington.

A 'left' insofar as there's an EarthFirst or an occasional protest against the G8? Maybe. An organized 'left' as a practical political matter? No.

No, I'm pretty sure he came out strongly for Gay Marriage, didn't the? During the run up to vote on the law in New York?

Remember, he spoke at that GLBT fundraiser right on the eve of the vote.

Why? Every adult mind knows why it's going up: Baby Boomers who are living longer. It's not some big revelation.

We have to spend more and tax much more. It's a no-brainer. Talk Radio and Fox News don't want us to spend and tax more. That's a no-brainer, too. And it's those two entities - not the Tea Party - that are the real opponents to resolving systemic problems in our economy.
