Budget talks: This is getting nasty

No, I mean the only plan that is on actual paper that we can read and analyze. The Gang of 6 proposal is also written, I guess, but with no tax increases the Senate libtards are never going to approve that. So it was also so-called "political theatre," wasn't it? And why should the House not pass its plan and let the Senate consider it? That is much better than passing the buck and doing nothing but pontificating, making speeches and trying to act like you are in charge. Read Noonan today...hits the nail on the head.

And are you seriously saying the House should not pass anything unless it is 100 percent positive the Senate will approve it as well? Sounds like a real chickenshit way to govern if you ask me.

I completely agree...I was making a point to Bubbler with his "teabagger" garbage. It's petty and juvenile, but he will not stop. Good for the goose and all.

The last sentence is completely disingenuous. The 11th hour is not a time to make your political statement. It's time for an end game.

As far as what Obama's plan is, I don't think it's hard to figure out. It's what he created Bowles-Simpson for. He endorses the Gang of Six plan, which includes four people from that commission. The Gang of Six plan compromises what was originally in the Bowles-Simpson proposal from last year, so you get an idea of where the compromises are.

He's been clear from the beginning he wanted a bi-partisan compromise, which is why he created the commission. He gave parameters for compromises he would accept. Otherwise, it's the congress' job to legislate.

Come on, Brian, he COMPLETELY ignored the Simpson-Bowles recommendations. The reason we are in the 11th hour is because of Obama, not the Dems or Repubs in Congress. He was out playing golf and going on vacations, letting Biden preside over this mess, until he thought it would be politically expedient to get his face in front of the cameras to look like he was in charge. He can endorse things and make people assume what he wants all day...why has he not come out and said "I want X, Y and Z?" You know the reason as well as I do...because he does not want to be the one responsible for making the tough choices that will cause some people to be upset. He is playing the PR game while the financial future of the country hangs in the balance. There is a reason his approval ratings are dropping like a stone and a lot of liberals are expressing their buyer's remorse with this guy. And his lack of leadership is going to cost him his job in 2012. You and a lot of the "Obama is great despite whatever he might do wrong" crowd might not see it, but he is not going to get re-elected and that's quite clear. Truthfully I don't think he seriously wants to remain President. I think he knows he bit off more than he can chew, that he is not qualified for the job and he is too thin-skinned to deal with the criticism. I think he's going to mail it in during the campaign season and gladly join the private sector where he can count his millions and live a life of leisure.

I've long found it to be very bad business to let personal emotions and opinions get in the way of sound prognostications . . .

Until we know what the president is proposing, we have no idea how many Democrat members of the House will support it.

Right now, Dems are in full demagogue mode as they don't have to defend their own plan -- to their own base.

And, every time some potential part of that plan is leaked as a trial balloon, Dems shoot it down.

Non-Partisan, Centrist Voter: I'm sick of this. I just want them to get a deal done now. I don't care what they do, just get it done.

YankeeFan: So, you'd support a deal that cut spending and held the line on taxes then?

Non-Partisan, Centrist Voter: No. That's totally unacceptable. The rich need to pay their fair share. They can afford to pay higher taxes. And, I say this in an entirely non-partisan manner. Oh, and fuck those inbred teabaggers while you're at it too. We shouldn't let them hold us hostage.

    Cry me a fucking river.

I have no respect for their politics, their proud and willfull ignorance of anything outside their own sphere, their agenda, their intransigent inability to compromise and their general vision for America.

I have even less respect for their willingness to drive America off a cliff for some ideological point that is not supported by the majority of the country. Other than the truest of believers, there isn't a soul who wants to fly a bloody flag of economic calamity based on their agenda.

And the ball is very much in their court. Obama and Boehner have tried to create a compromise. Who's holding it up in the House? It ain't the Democrats. Ideological opposition or not, Democrats will fall in line because they know its good for the country. Can't say the same for the Teabaggers.

So I will call them teabaggers. I will call them that until they show they can be adults, or hopefully, fade away like the Know-Nothings and other idiotic movements before them. Their anti-governing way of governing is a dead end and they're prepared to drive us all 100 miles per hour right into a wall. I have zero respect for it.

If you take offense to that, so be it. That thin skin is your problem, not mine.

From, oh, 2002-2005 or so, anyone with any qualms about our military adventures overseas was labeled a traitor, a coward, and all sorts of other things. In a non-partisan manner, of course.

Hate not the player, hate the game. Which I'm afraid your side was more than willing to play when it dominated the board.
