And what's lost through all this is the wealthiest Americans are paying less in taxes under Obama than they did under Reagan.

But keep drumming up that "socilist" argument, Teabaggers.

Earlier, somebody argued we're headed for inflation, so I linked the data showing that inflation is lower than it was in was in most of Reagan's best months and it is actually in danger of becoming deflation.

But come the morning, they'll turn on their radio or their Fox news and hear all the talking points about inflation or stagflation and despite the emperical evidence to the contrary, their faith in the "Conservative" movement will be restored. "Faith" being the operable word here.

This is (finally) a civil discussion about politics on these boards. Will you quit it with the "teabaggers" shit?

I understand that. My point is, regularly spending more than you earn is a practice that cannot work, whether you're managing the finances of a household or the U.S. of A.

Yeah, but just letting the Aug. 2 deadline pass and nothing else is not going to magically fix that problem. Far, far from it, in fact, despite what the Republican Party would have you believe.

Just one thing. The idea that the U.S. cannot consistently spend more than it has taken in is obviously contradicted by the facts. The U.S. has spent more than it has taken in for almost every one of the last 70 years. We're still here, and still astonishingly prosperous (not so much as before, admittedly) by the standards of all the rest of human history.
There's a limit to HOW MUCH MORE a government can spend as opposed to revenue without negative consequences, but the mere minus number itself is not a problem.

Not that the so-called GOP moderates would do that . . . but where else is the Far Right going to go?
Same story as the Dems and the Far Left . . .

While you quote "Hussein" in your signature?

But you mentioned what I am worried about...the deficit related to the GNP is moving into uncharted waters. It seems like we are pushing up against that limit you were talking about.

So, is that calling anyone names? Thought not. This thread is too good to have it locked because of some idiocy so just drop it.

It's the same sort of demagoguery-attempt, though.

Carlton, think of the U.S. budget as trying to land a jumbo jet. Turning off all the engines at 37,000 feet is not an optimal flight plan, although you will reach the ground in a hurry.
