According to the map on the L.A. Times story, she went down the west coast of South America and around the tip of Argentina.

Yes. Please do some sort of research or have some sort of backing when you form an opinion on how likely the girl is to die trying this.

I stand corrected. It looks like it was her brother Zac who went through the Canal.

    Please do.

When the number climbs higher than, say, zero, let us know.

Or does "stupid shit" extend beyond the scope of solo circumnavigation?

If we include "going on a date with Ben Roethlisberger" . . . then don't bother.

Nothing, he has no basis for this. He's shown his ass once again.

I highly doubt I would allow my 16 year old to do this but I try not to live in a world of absolutes.

Perhaps I'm a little cold, but the only thing that really bothers me about this is the cost of the rescue. If an adventurous family thinks it's OK to take this level of risk, fine, but they should also have to demonstrate the ability to pay for a rescue before leaving the damn dock. Similarly, if you want to play Spider Man and climb the Empire State Building, fine, pay for a permit to close the street and the additional cops and firemen needed to keep the crowd safe and scrape your body off the pavement when it's over.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure this stance makes me a viable Tea Party candidate.

Can you also pull the ones where adults crash to give us a comparable.

JC, I'll let you do the in depth study of whether or not an older pilot could have survived these crashes.

    Are you kidding?

Girls flying WITH INSTRUCTORS and the crash being the INSTRUCTORS' FAULT is all you got?
