Jim Carrey and Jason Voorhees will be glad to know that.

She could have died, just like you could die doing almost anything.

But she did not die. She didn't even almost die.

I just feel like that should be pointed out.

She was in an extremely perilous situation. One could die attempting to sail around the world at the age of 16. One could die attempting to drive around the block. I'd rather take my chances driving around the block.

Write, just forget it. You're not going to change anyone's mind.

    No, you're not.

Nor is anyone going to change the stupidity of these parents.

Intransigence - if not invented on SJ, it was certainly perfected here.

No one is changing his/her mind in this situation. Works on both sides.

Typical of the great majority of human beings. It's one of those things separates us from animals. Except the weasel. Intransigent bastard.

Jesus Christ you come up with some of the most ridiculous comparisons to try to make your point.

So what do you guys think about moving to Moscow on your own as a 15 year old girl? I mean, that's obviously fraught with risk, right? And a 15 year old isn't old enough to understand the danger she's placing herself in, so the parents should stop her?

(And yes, this is a real-life example related to the "child prodigy" idea I posted earlier).

I can be persuaded to accept other points of view, if they're presented logically.

    Guess that makes me atypical.
