Easy. You couldn't make the same point without adding the last three words?
Or the dipshit your buried in the quotes earlier?
No need for that - discuss, disagree, whatever but leave that shit out.

There's 500 plus posts on that thread. I apologize if I didn't peruse all of them equally.

Yes, everybody is fucked. But based on the people I know in this business who are getting fucked, those in Tampa are getting it worse than normal.

The Tampa issue is getting so much pub on this board because two big name, well-liked writers got the axe.

Dallas Morning News in '04 and '06: layoff personnel got one week of pay per service year, and they said most stridently that they would never offer voluntary buyout packages. Two years later they offered voluntary buyout packages, two weeks pay per service year capped at 20 weeks of pay

    That's screwed up.

My paper did the 1 week-per-6 months of service, up to a maximum of 1 year's pay, plus six months of health benefits.

I have to say that, if I got nudged out for that deal, I would feel fucked. If I got nudged out for 1 week per, up to a max of 6 weeks, I would feel really, really fucked. You give me a year's pay and I'll make it last two years. You give me six weeks of pay and I'll be lucky to make it last 10 weeks, even eating corn flakes three times daily.

Just heard that Atlanta employees have been offered two weeks pay for every year at the paper, and they'll round up if you've got more than half a year.

Another person said the same thing and that with the last round at the AJC, they capped the buyout at a year's pay and it was offered to those 55 and older.

Paxton: a don't let the door hit you on the way out AND we'll sell everything from your desk to pad our execs' bonuses.

  8. The door couldn't hit them on the way out. There were armed (?) security guards marching them out into the parking lot.

I've seen two firings (not recently) where the guy was escorted out of the building and a fellow employee had to clean out his desk for him.

    Once it was completely justified.
The other time it was so unfair it's not even funny.
