By far the best work of a screen actor's life

This seems like the most topical place to put this, and I sure as shit don't want to start a new thread for it.

Will someone who loves "Field of Dreams" please PM me? thank you.

Also, Johnny Depp has been good in a lot of movies, but never better than he was in "Ed Wood."

The question is "by far." And Depp wasn't "by far" better in Ed Wood than he was in Fear and Loathing.

Or "by far" better in Ed Wood than in Finding Neverland, Pirates or Edward Scissorhands.

He's hit too many out of the park to really be on this thread.

Yeah I think the point of this thread was to discuss actors who surprised you by being so good in one role, not the best performance of a guy that's good in everything he does.

How about Madonna in Evita? Only performance of hers I can stand, and I think it's wonderful. Granted she was almost playing herself . . .

Andre the Giant in The Princess Bride.

Actually, Cary Elwes probably peaked in that film, as well.

    Patrick Swayze -- Roadhouse.

It is, in many ways, a perfect film.

What about Pulp Fiction and Get Shorty?

    Jones --
What I think is interesting is that we both liked American Beauty when we watched it and disliked it later -- but for opposite reasons.

I loved the hatefulness, and thought it copped out on that at the end.

I mean, by the end, I would think it would have already alienated anyone it was going to alienate. You might as well have had Kevin Spacey fuck Mena Suvari and get shot by Annette Benning.

That would have been a brilliant film.
