AB, this is absolutely awesome ...

The top of the transactions today:

    Monday Transactions
    Seattle Post-Intelligencer
    Sports Department

The entire staff, complete with many nicknames. Most are "Released NAME (job)." My favorite might be the last: "Returned Uncle Gordon Creighton to the Angels."

AB if you ever capsulize that day, that night, those 24 or 48 hours or so, in story form, please let the board know.

That's something I would really like to read.

I've been to Seattle many times and always enjoyed reading the P-I. The Times, too, and the Tacoma paper. A lot of us who have been in the biz a long time were known to go by the racks and pick up 3 or 4 papers at one time. Down this way, like most places, you can't do that any more. Not even the mid-size metro daily 80 miles to the west of here. Or the state capital paper, about twice our size, a 2 1/2 hour drive to the north.

You can get USA Today, but that takes about five minutes to read. The Cracker Barrel waitress hasn't even given you a refill by then.

I hope my limited budget can get me to the Pacific Northwest sometime this year AB. I have several friends in Seattle, including two or three who are no longer in the biz. If you wanna go get a brewski or something, I'm down. Send me a PM.

Keep on fightin' the power, man. Someday it's gonna pay off.

    Fantastic on the transactions.
A photo person superimposed his picture into a photo in the final edition of the Rocky. When I get home, I'll find the page number so those of you who got the final version can see it.

Just picked up my copies. Had to go three different places just to find a rack with any papers. It's...strange picking it up.

The sports transactions were just fantastic. And oddly fitting.

A weird feeling around our office here today, like a relative or friend passed away.

    I suppose one did.

Good luck in the future AB/David.

And for what it's worth, your 'Suspicious baby' photo never fails to make me laugh. I love the expression on the baby's face.

When I was a young boy I can remember seeing my grandfather sitting at the breakfast table reading the Seattle P-I every day and thinking that there must have been something amazing in the paper for him to spend so much time reading the newspaper.

As I got older I found myself doing the same thing, though it wasn't at the breakfast table, it was more on my way to work on the bus in the morning. Having very little money to go to Mariners games in the years from about 1998-2003 I relied on the P-I for my updates on how they, along with the Seahawks, Huskies, Sonics and all the area high schools, were doing. When I left for college in Las Vegas, I used the P-I website more than I can remember to follow the teams of my hometown.

With that I want to say thank you, to you Mr. Andriesen, and to all the P-I staff for all the wonderful work you guys have done over the years.

I don't know if it's possible, but if anyone has an electronic copy of those transactions they can post (or can scan in a photo of the trannies) I'd like to see it.

If no one's posted it by late afternoon, I'll scan a copy of 'em and post them.

On the lighter side, someone on Fark with a) contempt for the idea of going from the print P-I to an online-only product, b) an idea from another Farker and c) epic Photoshop skillz produced this:

A scanned copy of the agate (those final papers are hard to find!) is posted at http://www.sportsdesigner.org/PIdeals.jpg

Jim Peterson, God of agate and all things sports, is one the funniest, smartest and talented people on the planet.
