Thanks POKES. It's nice the suits let that through, or at least didn't notice it until it was too late.

    I'm guessin' the latter, OTD.

Maybe AB can fill us in.

It's going on the Wall of Fame in my cubicle.

All the best to our brethren from the P-I.

Shocking statement by Hearst on the online experiment:

    http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003953674

Let's see, so the page views increased by 200,000 on the first day after the P-I published its final edition. Isn't that roughly the same amount as the paper's circulation? What did he think all those people were going to do the very next day, you know the ones conditioned to follow the P-I?

I'd like to see what he has to say a month from now.

Not to mention that site traffic was probably high all week as people went there to read about the paper's closure, so the comparison to January is moot.

Here's a rundown of what was offered on Day 1, and it's not a kind assessment:

No, it was not a kind assessment but it was honest. I can kind of see some of the points made by a few commenters about giving the site a chance, but I also see Chuck's point about how long they have known this was going to be the likely scenario and with that mind should have had a better launch plan in place.

Late here - just saw this.

Babar (and you'll always be Babar to me-- people tell me their real names and I forget them),

    I don't for a second believe this:

I'm sure your career has less to do with luck than you let on, and you'll figure it out. Nope, nope I don't care what you say-- whatever your personal or professional situation is, you'll figure it out and will not be writing lawnmower press releases for the entire time your son is of an age that he can remember.

    ((( HUGS )))

I was out of town this week and just now caught up on this thread. David, you've been a true friend for years through this place, and having finally met you (and Manny's!) last summer, I lament not making the meeting at the airport happen.

You are a fantastic man, and a better journalist. You busted your ass every day for a company that wouldn't do the same for you. That speaks volumes about you. Wish I'd logged on that day, for I would have put a lot of money on that tab.

My best to all former P-I people. The world is worse for having lost the paper.

Had to share this. Last night we had our final P-I staff sendoff party. A former (and incredibly talented) coworker who I hadn't seen in years came up to our table, looked at my son and said, "Hey! It's Suspicious Baby!" That might have been the highlight of the night.
