It's absolutely shitty -- and absolutely fitting -- that the two posts most often nominated for post of the year are from people eulogizing their newspapers.

    Fuck me.

I just cracked open an Anchor Steam in salute to the fine folks at the P-I. Sorry, I didn't have any more Rainier.

I left the newspaper business in December and thought I'd miss the heck out of it. I haven't. My paper's three nightly deadlines used to supply my rush. Now being home for dinner and kissing my 1-year-old daughter on the head before she goes to bed does the trick -- and then some.

To Dave and the rest of the P-I staff, best of luck. I'm sure another promising door will swing wide open for you very soon.

i hope we're being honest with ourselves. if these folks stay in seattle, they best be getting out of the business.

i doubt babar and his friends want any part of community journalism.

A good read about the final day: http://www.seattlepi.com/local/403876_picolor17.html

From Art Thiel's final print column (http://www.seattlepi.com/thiel/403850_thielxx.html), a quote from Tim Robbins, an ex-P-I copy editor:

"There's something about the way ink bleeds into the paper. ... There's more soul there," he said. "Ink is the blood of language. Paper is the language's flesh."

Beautiful. God bless the P-I, and God save Seattle. It's going to need help now that it's lost the Post-Intelligencer.

Best of luck to you as you begin a new chapter in life. You will hopefully land on your feet soon.

David and to all others whose jobs have been cast aside like some bad investment, just remember you always served the people you were supposed to serve, the readers. Yet you have to pay the price for bad decision making by superiors. It flat out sucks.

That was a great post, Dave. You're as good as it gets and I'm honored that a top-of-the-line baseball writer slummed long enough to call a nobody like me a friend. :D

The biz needs more guys like you, not less, so here's hoping you land on your feet somehow...and that we get to rip it up one summer in Cooperstown.
