Berkeley Breathed of Bloom County and Outland was and is against all merchandising. I believe he would kill Garfield and its writer with a dull pencil if given the chance.

 

He might say that, but I recall Bloom County merchandise back in the late 80s.

While I liked Calvin and Hobbes, I never got the obsession some had/have. Now, The Far Side was a totally different issue.

I had a few Opus stuffed animals and a Bill the Cat. Breathed wasn't a big merchandiser, but he wasn't nearly as adamant as Watterson.

 

Color me corrected.

 

To this day, when I try to enter a door clearly marked "pull" by pushing it, "School for the Gifted" pops into my head.

Sadly, it happens fairly frequently.
