I don't find petulance particularly interesting.

I have to say though that seeing dickheads like Newton reminds me why it's better being on the sidelines. I like athletes so much more now that I never actually meet them. I can definitely understand why people are pissed when it happens to them. The lack of respect is pretty grinding.

Speaking of Lynch, this is pretty cool. And Lynch's act is somewhat interesting in relation to the average childishness.

Petulance is way more interesting copy than cliches or someone lying. The way I viewed it: It's not about your feelings, it's about the readers interest.

Maybe this is all just more evidence that athlete/coach press conferences have outlived their usefulness.

    Like traditional game stories.

Maybe he just doesn’t like being required to do the promotional press conference? Maybe he has mental health issues we don’t even know about? Maybe it’s not so easy for him to be respectful in the way would like? He’s there because he’s good at football. What are there are there 3,000 players in the NFL? There’s going to be a pretty wide range of personalities between Drew Brees and Marshawn Lynch.

Well maybe if the guy was more interesting, he wouldn't have to lie or talk in cliches. To be a good interview isn't solely the responsibility of the interviewer. Him saying "I'm just here so I don't get fined" like some kind of low grade Bartleby is not interesting copy. Now if he'd taken that time to go off topic to discuss some interesting story he read in the latest issue of Nature magazine, sure, that'd be interesting. What Lynch did doesn't qualify IMHO.

Limited experience compared to others around these parts, but I'm sure I'm not alone in that all the best stuff I ever got from any player on any level was outside the mandatory appearances. Plenty of players are interesting without being dicks. The trouble is finding the time to find out who they are.

Maybe he’s just a dick? That seems to be the most likely answer.
