    Yes.

You're basically giving them cover to act like children bc they are good at their jobs and generate money? This type of attitude helps explain the prevalence of assholes in our society.

You don't get it. Athletes don't need me or anyone else to "give them cover" because they command so much value with their playing skill that many (correctly) feel that they don't really need to play along with the press conference nonsense to have a successful career and don't share your feeling that they should gladly put up with it out of some sense of obligation to the industry or the media. And for the record, I have no issue whatsoever with Cam Newton blowing off that question and walking out. I was amused by it.

No, I get it all right. We just have different ideas of what acting professionally and like an adult entail. If you're amused by Cam Newton, well, we have different senses of humor, that's all.

He's a mad genius coach. Cam is just a player who needs to speak to the media with proper deference.

Are you new to power dynamics? That's how they work.

People will put up with much more from athletes because they can do something only a handful of people in the world can do, and do something the rest of us plunk down hundreds of billions of dollars to watch every single year.

just because a dynamic exists doesn't mean you have to countenance it. Guys like Harvey Weinstein have been able to act like shitheads for generations. But, I guess that's just the way it is...

I think you should have to be an academic all-American, take etiquette classes and maybe serve a couple years in a seminary to be a football player. The games may suck but boy those press conferences would be professional.
