Cam Newton thinks female reporter talking routes is 'funny'

I just can't understand why so many people are upset by his comments when I'm not. I might go so far to say I don't even care! What did he say that was offensive? He said he thinks it's funny when a woman says the word routes, not when a bitch says it. I care so little about this I will say that everyone who does care somewhat about it is outraged. Why is everyone so outraged about something that I don't care about?

What is "truck-sticking?" Sounds like a freq move.

I haven't played video games years, but when I did, there was a feature in Madden where you could deliver a particularly hard hit with one of the joysticks (truck stick).

    "Impressed." Wow.

I hate the term, personally, but this is exactly what they're talking about when they call out "mansplaining."

"Oh, you think you're offended? Don't you worry your little head, sweetie. That's not how he meant it. You just don't understand."

Except she absolutely understood how he meant it. It was dismissive and condescending, because she was a woman.

    LOL. Yeah Cam sounded "impressed."

The outrage seems overblown. Maybe he wasn't impressed or assertively trying to be an asshole and just blurted out the truth in the moment?

If that is Christine Brennan or Jackie MacMullan, or any of the old guard, asking the same guard asking the question, does Cam react differently? I don't know the reporter in question, but she seems young, and Cam comes off a bit arrogant here. He thought he could get away with this line in this situation and completely misread the situation, almost as badly as he's misread defense to this point in the season.

Glad he's taking a bunch of heat. For columnists not to write about it means belittling a reporter based simply on gender is unacceptable is OK, and it's not.

He doubled down on it in their hallway conversation afterward.

Look, Cam is immature. It's been a hallmark of his entire career, at every stop. In a way, the Superman stuff is actually an extension of that. He's a child, and wants to remain a child, and sports has allowed him to never grow up. He's still the same guy who stole a laptop AND THEN WROTE HIS NAME ON THE STOLEN LAPTOP. He pouts and says dumb shit and thinks deeply about very little. This is him, and that's fine. Whatever. He can be the same smug and immature guy he's always been. AND (nuance alert!) some of the criticism of him can still be coded language that's rooted in stereotypes. The whole "What will I tell my children who see him dabbing?" controversy is one perfect example.

But he's immature, and I don't think that's ever changing.

It's the move I used to dominate my college roommates in Madden '94.

She should have said, "Ya know what's funny, Cam? How you dress."

Or, she should have acted and behaved professionally, as she did.
