Cam Newton thinks female reporter talking routes is 'funny'

I get this from some people I trust who know some about Cam: He's often assertively trying to be an asshole because he's uncomfortable with himself.

Now Jourdan is having to go on the defensive for some old tweets of hers.

That more or less describes all assholes.

I agree very much with this.

If I were a player or coach and a reporter tried to get that deep in an area he/she knows nothing about, I'd be inclined toward mockery too. And most reporters do sound bad when they try to go deep into Xs and Os.

Oof. Not a good look for the paper, either, which should have discovered these tweets on its own before she was hired.

The truth is that feeling that way is an asshole move.

I completely agree that so many reporters/writers who think they understand Xs and Os absolutely do not.

Even some of the people who think they're experts regularly embarrass themselves. Belichick has this pretty good riff about how even he doesn't make judgments about who screwed up on a play until he sees film, talks to multiple players about what was called prior to the play, talks to lineman about whether they got the protection right, etc. So many times, you'll see a receiver fuck up a route, or not understand he's just become the primary hot read because the quarterback recognized a blitz, and the ball will get picked off and all of Twitter will erupt in what a stupid throw the quarterback made. When in fact, the quarterback made the right throw and he's totally justified in ripping the receiver on the way to the sidelines.

That said: Her question, however, wasn't even an Xs and Os question. It was about Funchess "embracing the physicality of his routes, and whether Cam takes pride in that" which, even though it is not a particularly good question, is not at all about whether or not Funchess has done a great job running hitches in the soft part of the zone when he recognizes defenses playing a soft Cover-3.

That's a good point. However, as someone who undoubtedly asked questions that had players and coaches rolling their eyes similarly, but who now consumes these press conferences as a spectator, the question/observation seemed more like an attempt to show how much the reporter knows than to elicit a response from Newton.

Which of course does not make it an unusual question at all.
