Can we (BLEEEEEEEP) stop honoring the military now?

Maybe President Ted Cruz can have an armored division march down Pennsylannia Ave, then forcibly occupy Washington and put all the Democrats in detention

I had a discussion with a sister about this. There are a couple of things a) continued guilt about how we treated Vietnam veterans b) increased military operations c) more people having a connection to the military d) a way of being "connected" to the efforts in Iraq/Afghanistan e) marketing (businesses, especially the pro leagues using the military to add "gravitas" to their spectacles.

    Yup. Exactly.

I wish they'd take the money spent doing a flyover before the Daytona 500 and spend it on those veterans who have had their lives ruined by a stray bullet.

And yes, most of the words expended on "thanking veterans" is just that. Words.

No kidding. No one goes to a football game to watch the pregame show; the parades are all day family events.

I went to India's -- forget what it was called -- and was amazed that kind of thing went on. It was a national holiday, IIRC, and the place was absolutely packed. The thing went on and on forever.

But no, I will not "stop honoring the military."

For all the good points raised here, it is interesting that this thread is now five pages longer than the 'thank the Vets' thread that never materialized on Tuesday.

There was one and the moderators inexplicably took it down.

    Commie bastards!

I find some of this thread very disappointing, but to each his own. SportsJournalists.com is rough sometimes, harsh on Santa, vets, etc. Only properly constructed poin threads are sacred around here.

    It's mostly just e.

A volunteer army certainly doesn't create more connections. It creates less.

Our attitude toward the military is, in a word, strange, and has been since the 1980s when Reagan's people fought moralist proxy wars all over the globe.

Don't forget beating up entire fan bases. That goes over big, too.

Is there another fan base that turns a blind eye to child molestation? Or are you referring to the Steelers?
