I worry about sincerity when the government sets such a poor example.

I resent the government. No harm in saying so.

Last week at a fund raiser for Ferguson PD Patrolmen Darren Wilson Springsteen
sang "41 shots" to a rousing applause of the cop friendly audience.

Well the government thinks your stupid so there.

"Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really really critical to get for the thing to pass." Jonathan Gruber - Architect of ACA.

Yup and now you have the elite willing to verbalize it.

Why would he do that when anyone who knows anything about Springsteen knows that he's not pro-war? It's not like the Boss had some little inside joke going that only Boom understood. His life and his music have been so obvious in that regard that it's not a leap to assume that someone would hear bits and pieces of Born in the USA and think it was pro-war -- like I did about Boom.
I didn't fall for shit. He made a stupid joke.

My grandfather, who fought in World War II, was the same way. He never took part in any of the public veterans' activities and detested the hero worship, a lot of which he knew was phony.

He thought that there were worthy causes to fight for, he enlisted in WWII, but he was far from a "my country, right or wrong" type.

In any case, he thought, as I do, that everyone in the world is born free. Governments don't give you freedom, your freedom has more to do with what degree they oppress it. Wars are fought for freedom, but wars worth fighting (in most cases) are more for those who have it taken from them. Protecting your own freedom? That can be part of it, but it's secondary to the first.

The notion that freedom isn't free didn't get much traction with him. He thought it was highest order of bullshit, an idea that keeps gullible people from questioning their government.

    Smart man.
