It's a good thing journalists don't have an inflated sense of self-importance.

This is a pretty standard thing among Marines, and I understand it to some degree. That's what they are taught from day one. Best to avoid using former Marine, but anyone who calls to complain about it is just a pain in the ass. Much like some of those referenced on here bitching about not getting a discount or whatever. But there are assholes and entitled pricks in all walks of life.

You are correct. I got the two confused.

The endless drumbeat of gung-ho pro-military fetishism was basically cooked up by the forces pushing war in Desert Storm and then Afghanistan/Iraq etc etc etc etc., who wanted to cut off any potential anti-war movements a-la Vietnam off at the knees before they even got going.

Every time I'm at a stadium and there's a flyover (which is pretty impressive and the fans go ga-ga over), I can only think of the military parades (tanks, missiles, etc.) in the Soviet Union, and how media in the U.S. would show video of those parades as an example of the scary, evil, dictatorial propaganda of our enemy.

How is showing off our military muscle by flying fighters and bombers over our stadiums during our sporting events any different?

Flying jets over American stadiums helps the American aerospace industry. Mayday parades help the Russian economy.

Meanwhile, the 1,188 captains and 550 majors who lost their jobs in the army this summer don't do jack for Boeing's bottom line and should rightly be tossed out.

Let's give soldiers maimed in war, those that Wounded Warriors are forced to take care of, the same treatment we give a member of Congress when he-she retires..full pension, full benefits.I'd rather my taxes go to them rather than anyone in either house.

I think we can all agree on this.

Big difference between a special effect and an entire damn Red Day parade. Jesus.

Not a matter of agreeing. If Congress wanted to enact this it would have already.
