Can we talk about Imus like adults?

I trust at the same time that Bruce will also be asking Sumner Redstone - Chairman of both CBS and Viacom to stop selling Gansta rap CD's and playing it on Viacom owned BET and MTV.

Well, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one. Welcome aboard the good ship "I don't get this logic."

They shouldn't. However that has nothing to do with my question. What percentage of Americans do you think really were offended by Imus or Hardaway? And for the record I WAS OFFENDED.

That's the thing about insults. To be truly nasty, they have to be personal. And a large percentage of the American public is not "black women." Gramatically incorrect, but you get my point.

It goes to why Russo says he wouldn't be offended if his 3-year-old daughter (or whatever) were called that. She's not old enough to be sensitive to being called a "ho," and she's white. If one of Russo's neighbors said his daughter was a "spoiled whiny rich baby with behavioral and psychological problems," then he might be miffed.

Insults are about getting you where it hurts.

Not a lot of women are okay with 'whore' or 'ho.'

I don't know why Imus didn't simply take the Billy Packer Defense and say he was talking about "panty" hose or a "garden" hose. Look it up in the dictionary. Hose has many definitions. As for nappy headed -- it means they are sleepy. They like to take naps. ::)

I was offended, too. I would guess that fewer people weren't than were, though, if you take the entire country into the equation.

I liked the Whitlock piece but I think he erred in putting some of this on the Rutgers team and their coach. He could have done a better job stating that if we are truly pissed off and offended about the remarks we should take personal action, rather than just call on NBC and CBS to fire Imus and sacrifice a big chunk of change. Its easy to call for someone else to make a choice or sacrifice, but when will we make those same choices ourselves?

    I wasn't offended, but I was appalled.

What choices do I need to make Dan? To not call women hos or whores?

    Clap, clap.

And if much of America doesn't understand why it's hurtful for Hardaway to say gays shouldn't be allowed to live in the country, or why being called a ho is incredibly offensive, or why "nappy-headed" has connotations that go far beyond describing someone's hair style, then it's our job to educate.
I've had people in my life, here and overseas, who seriously did not understand why the word "negro" has become offensive. The more we talked about it, the better they understood, and I would be shocked if any of them ever again use it.

You forgot to mention not using racial slurs before not calling women hos or whores...
