my mom is from PEI, and she hates lobster....impossible right? the reason is she actually went to a schoolhouse, 1 room for ages 6 through 18, and in her day, having to eat a lobster sandwich at lunch meant you were really poor. Everyone was poor,......but lobster meant you were poor!!!

Today, I'm paying $15 for a lobster roll. There's not many 35 year olds in Boston that can say 1 of their parents grew up without electricity or running water....but that's why she is who she is. When people are sick, she makes them food, my friends will call my mother and ask for cookies, brownies....or whatever food was their favorite and spend a few hours with my parents.

I'm very fond of Canada. ;)

Ashy, funny you mention lobster because there was a very good memoir (I cannot for the life of me remember the title or the author) published a number of years ago about growing up in PEI. The author said exactly that: bringing lobster to school for lunch meant you were poor.

But, hey, as long as the courts find in his favour, no harm done, right?

no kidding? All my aunts and uncles say that....except for 1, my uncle Louis.....who is a lobsterman, and absolutely loves them! There is nothing better in the world than eating a lobster caught that day, having him cook it and crack it in 20 seconds.

I'll retire there.....I have the land and a house...just need to get old. ;)

Maybe he should go find the border patrol officer and offer to fight him. For his rights, you know. Can't take this lying down.

And when you move back to PEI, let me know. HC & I will come and visit. :)

I have a friend who built this gorgeous summer home near Morrell. He's an architect and the inspiration for the design were the fishing huts.

I will let everyone know when I settle on up there.

My place isn't too far from Morell.....I go to Morell because that's where the oyster an mussel packaging factory is. Malpeque Bay oysters.....$10 for 30. Now I'm really homesick.

    $10 for 30??

Hell, 30 Malpeques in TO would probably set you back, oh, at least a $100.00.

Profound apologies for returning to the thread topic, because I really love Malpeque oysters, but one obvious reason for a leaving-the-country search is currency issues.

    He's a writer? Never mind.

If you read the Toronto Star story, they were leaving the country in a car rented in the US because their Canadian rented auto broke down. That may be the reason they were stopped.
