    As a matter of fact . . .

    But I'll let it lie.

Two chains. He took Ingersoll into the tank in the early 1990s. None of the fawning fictional obituaries mention that.

Flawed though he may have been, there are people on this earth who loved him, and are hurting because he's gone.

To them I offer my deepest condolences.

I'm sure there are people whose lives and careers have been negatively affected by those posting on this thread. I wish death neither on them nor this individual.

  5. Maybe a little faith can put things in perspective. I'm employed at a JRC paper, and the first thing I thought when I heard the news of his death was neither positive nor negative. I just thought, "He will now be judged." Those who loved him and those who hated him may be able to take solace in that, based on their perspective of the man.

I didn't wish death on Bob, either.

But I don't have any doubt about what kind of person he was, either.

    Great get.

Anyone who won't acknowledge the realities after reading that, is lying to themselves.

    Happy Holidays.

  8. I can only add this to what is a singularly fascinating thread.
Voltaire -- or somebody -- once said that to the dead, we owe only the truth. And the best newspaper editor I ever had once told a reporter who wanted to do a flowery eulogy on a guy everybody knew was eight kinds of dick in this life, "You know what you have when a prick dies? A dead prick."
Here endeth, for me, the lesson.

Well, as one of the referencers, I did so only to make a point -- that there's a level a person can hit where he was so evil, that trying to be nice about his departure is silly.

I never worked for Jelenic, and don't know whether he hit that level or not. Some apparently feel he did.

I hope you're not thinking that we look upon this the way we do because we don't realize the adverse effect this man has had on the journalism business. I fully realize it, and I think it's important that you understand that.

The realities are acknowledged. And I still think you rise above them. Many of you obviously don't.

I don't know the particulars in this case, but why should we assume that just because someone has family members that each person has folks who love them.

Often folks reserve a special hatred for members of their own family.
