I think this was a man who we genuinely haunted by his decisions in regard to Vietnam and that quote shows he didn't just pass it off as "It was the right thing to do at that time."

Agree - I read the book and came away with a lot of respect for Mcnamara. He was not a man who was trying to save his legacy. He truly was haunted by the decisions that he made.

No, it's the perversion of a celebrity-driven society.

What an absolutely horrible run-on sentence in the lead - 52 words:

Robert S. McNamara, perhaps the most influential defense secretary of the 20th century, who helped lead the nation into the maelstrom of Vietnam and spent the rest of his life wrestling with the war’s moral consequences, died early Monday at his home in Washington, the Associated Press reported, citing his wife, Diana.

Bad week, McNair, McNamara, someone checking on Ronald McDonald?

Anyone want to learn more about McNamara and not read a book, check out Path to War an HBO film from a few years back with Alec Baldwin playing McNamara. Or check out the Erroll Morris documentary, the Fog of War. McNamara was the Billy Beane of defense secretaries.

Am I the only one who has a problem with the headline?

Why? You have something against the truth?

I have something against opinions in the news section, no matter how widely held.
