I think those flights have become a standard part of misdirection. It used to be a brilliant reporting technique, but it's pretty meaningless now.

The first person I ever heard of doing it was Wright Thompson when he was still a student at Missouri in the late 1990s. It might have been when Missouri hired Quin Snyder.

When Alabama was conducting the search that ultimately resulted in hiring Saban, TV camera crews raced to the Tuscaloosa airport when the university plane was inbound one December day.

The hatch popped open, and out climbed interim coach Joe Kines holding a sack of Whataburgers. He'd been to Shreveport for a press conference to formally accept the Independence Bowl invitation.

I was just about to post about how I remember getting flight pattern updates seemingly every 5 seconds when I lived in Alabama during the Saban search. People were losing their minds over it. It was quite amusing.

Joe Kines. Man, what a guy. He was great.

Over the last 12 years, Kansas has paid out tens of millions of dollars to...

    Mark Mangino and Charlie Weis.

This should be the one major conference job that Jerry Kill won't have to worry about health questions.
