No, no, no. A hundred times "NO". CSU needs an up and comer, not someone who left a bigger school and probably thinks he's too good for that job.

CSU is a Mountain West Conference school. A middle of the pack MWC school at that. I don't care how many games you win, you're not a national championship contender.... EVER. See Boise State. So if a coach has aspirations of coaching at the very top level, they are eventually going to have go someplace else. This year, next year, whenever.

I can't blame McElwain one bit. Just like I couldn't blame Chris Peterson for leaving Boise State for Washington. Not just the money, but the chance of a lifetime job of coaching at a major program.

It was sort of amusing when the extension and buyout were announced how people around Fort Collins seemed to think he was locked up long term, like any SEC team wouldn't pay to get him if they decided he was the guy.

True. I would say that's true for any MWC coach. Bigger school comes calling with an offer to double your salary and give you a chance to compete on the biggest stage...... it's a no-brainer.

That said, the list of coaching failures far outnumbers the list of true success stories. In every game, you have a winner and a loser. McElwain might be the next big thing, or he could just as easily go 10-26 in three years. But I can't blame him for wanting to see what the possibilities might be.

I wonder what Foley's bosses think about him spending all that money to reload.

The athletic director at an SEC school (other than Vanderbilt) has bosses?

Surprised that the drum beat has not started yet for ND to dump Brian Kelly. Seemed
pretty clear to anyone watching USC game that Kelly has lost that team.
44 and 20 is not the greatest of records.

Interesting fun fact on Mike Riley that I never knew. He is the cousin of Major Ogilvie

Yeah, Mike's uncle Hayden Riley was baseball and basketball coach at Alabama in the 1960s. Mike's dad, Bud Riley, played at Idaho for Dixie Howell, who was an Alabama star in the 1930s. That's how Mike's family wound up in the Northwest.

I never realized that Riley played for The Bear either. Cool that his Uncle was both baseball and basketball coach. Imagine that nowadays at D1 program.

Michigan seems to be quiet so far.

I saw Butch Jones' name listed on one list of possibilities. That surprised me.

I tend to think it will be Mullen or Schiano assuming they can't get Miles or Harbaugh.
