Miles is there for the taking.

As Chef said, Miles would probably take the Michigan job if offered in a "we need you" sort of way. Based on what the Louisiana guys have written in the past, they've never really offered it to him.

    The question is two-fold:

    1. Does Michigan want a 61-year-old head coach at this point, though Miles is not your typical 61-year-old energy-wise?

    2. Does Michigan want to "come across" money-wise? Miles makes $4.3 million at LSU. Michigan was paying Hoke $2.8 million.

I think Riley and Cutcliffe are the last two branches of the Bryant coaching tree.

Riley played for and Cutcliffe played and/or was a student manager.

They should hire Desmond Howard. He's been so outspoken about needing a
Michigan man in the job let him takeover and see what he can do.

South Alabama head coach Joey Jones is also a Bryant guy. Nearly fumbled away Bryant's record-breaking 315th victory in the 1981 Iron Bowl.

Starting to hear some out-of-left-field rumors on the U-M job, mainly involving teevee commentators.

The other primary working theory is things have gone quiet because the primary targets have contract exit details to work out (which of course would apply to pretty much everybody, but particularly Harbaugh or Miles).

They are also well aware they're going to have to pay more than what they paid Hoke -- unless they want to end up with another guy like Hoke.

The age thing wouldn't bother me. I don't think anyone would be surprised if Miles coached another 10 years.

All of the names being mentioned for his job are going to cost at least $4 million and probably closer to $5 million. Obviously, if Harbaugh enters the mix it will probably go up even more.

TV commentators? Deion? Mooch? Mack Brown? No, wait, I've got it. He does college football and has roots in the area -- Matt Millen!!!

    uh, no. LOL.

Although Mooch was thrown into the radio yackospere Thursday when the Riley-to-Nebraska news came out and they were casting around for a comparably random-yet-credible name which could be thrown into the U-M search.

But I don't think Mooch has picked up a coaching whistle since he got zonked by the Lions in 2005.

Well, they just fired Hoke on Tuesday, so it's not like it's been an especially long search.

As I've mentioned before, the National Football Foundation awards banquet is Tuesday night at the Waldorf Astoria. Most every coach in the country flies into NYC that Monday, so I'd expect some movement by then if not before.

Would there be any exit details for Harbaugh other than having to wait at least until the end of the month before the season is done?

I would imagine Miles would be pretty complicated, especially since he just got his extension a couple years ago.

Randy Edsall to Michigan? In his prime, took UConn to a BCS game, brought Maryland into the Big House this season and won.

Maybe he's ready for the 8 o'clock time slot.
