Nebraska (and the Big Ten) took a hit when it lost it's AAU status. Iowa State is actually one of the higher-rated schools in the Big 12 and an AAU member. KU should see its rankings go up quite a bit in the next few years because the Board of Regents finally allowed it to be more selective. All the state schools in Kansas used to have the same admission standards for in-state students, but KU lobbied to be more in line with flagship schools in other states.

K-State is a fine enough school with some great faculty, a good vet school and some outstanding ag based programs, but it's never going to be a highly-rated school even though it perfectly fills its role within the state system. Texas Tech and West Virginia aren't much for the conference to brag about.

There is more to the conference affiliation than athletics. The Big Ten has a strong research alliance among its schools, which is the big reason why AAU membership is a requirement and why the presidents were very upset when Nebraska lost its AAU status.

    Bevell's answer yesterday was interesting.

Granted, Bevell is about a thousand times nicer than your typical football coach, but he said he was interested in college and NFL openings.

Michigan State has long held the honor of last place academically in the B1G and the recent additions haven't changed anything.

Numerous reports out of Madison say a deal with Paul Chryst is all but done.

Where do these recruits wind up?

Junior college usually, but I do remember Mississippi State taking a guy a couple of years ago who couldn't get into Florida.

Or PG schools so they don't lose their eligibility

If not Harbaugh, WTF is Michigan waiting for?? The recruiting dead period starts Sunday (?), they have 6 commits....one is a kicker. Their class is currently (on 24/7 composite) ranked #86....just above Texas State and Toledo. They will eventually sign more bodies, but quality wise, they're essentially going to skip a recruiting cycle. Considering the Big 10's stance on over signing, it's not like they're going to be able to make this up next year.

Better be a home run, Wolverines......

Isn't that true at every school? Beat Vandy, Kentucky/ Purdue, Rutgers/Wake, Syracuse/Iowa State, Kansas and play the usual four BODs in an SEC/ACC/Big Ten/Big 12 OOC sked and you're in a bowl too. At least in the Pac-12 you need three conference wins to be bowl-eligible.

They're hiring a guy who went 19-19 with losses to Youngstown State, Navy and Akron in three years. Also, Pitt committed more stupid penalties than most. But hey, comfort food, amirite??

When you get dumped twice in four years, maybe you've got to hire the guy who wants to be there.
