The step backwards is certainly unique, but the move actually makes some sense. Pelini is a Youngstown guy, played at Cardinal Mooney, moved on to Ohio State. Gets to work for Jim Tressel, who (even though not coaching) has done a nice job of landing on his feet as a University Prez. Who knows.....maybe YSU will let him hire his crazy *ss brother, as well?

Ohio State O-Coordinator Tom Herman has landed the Houston gig. Terrific offensive mind, knows the area (came to OSU from Rice) & has recruited Texas REALLY well (JT Barrett, for example). Herman at Houston, Chad Morris at SMU & Phillip Montgomery at Tulsa.....the AAC has made some really nice hires.

I could see a job where he's not likely to get much grief on any level appealing to Pelini.

I suspect working for Tressel as university president would be similar to working for Alvarez as AD, only worse.

    Here's Pelini's take. He doesn't mince words.

LINCOLN — Bo Pelini became the new head football coach at Youngstown State Wednesday. He didn’t leave Nebraska without expressing disdain for Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst.

Pelini met with players on Dec. 2 at Lincoln North Star High School. In a 30-minute meeting, he provided a window into the strained — almost non-existent — relationship between his former boss and him.

“A guy like (Eichorst), who has no integrity, he doesn’t even understand what a core value is," Pelini told players. "He hasn’t understood it from the day he got here. I saw it when I first met with the guy.

“To have core values means you have to be about something, you have to represent something that is important to you. He's a f------ lawyer who makes policies. That’s all he’s done since he’s been here: hire people and make policies to cover his own ass.”

And Pelini was just warming up.

If Eichorst wasn’t going to support him, Pelini said, a change was for the best.

“He goes, 'Well, I disagree that I haven't supported you.' And I said, 'Hey bud, you can't support someone under a f-ing rock.' I said, 'to do your job at this level, in a place like this, you gotta be a grown-ass f-ing man to lead something.' I said, 'you can't lead anything under a f-ing rock.' I said, 'you don't spend any time with us. Our players don't even know who you are.' And I said, 'that isn't leadership.'

“And he said, 'Well I appreciate your advice.'”

“And I said, 'I suggest you take it, but see you later.' And that's how it went down.”

One motivation for Pelini to go to FCS-level YSU for probably half or less of what he'd make at a Power 5 school is now clear: he can still collect most of his earnings from Nebraska's bank account.

Reports coming out that Michigan is ready to go 6/$48M for Harbaugh.

The bad news: Pitt is in the market for a new coach again.
The good news: They're also in the market for a new athletic director.

That offer to Harbaugh is beyond insane. I'm guessing Saban is praying it happens. He'll have another raise by February.

Harbaugh may need his own carousel thread, since he's on both now. For the record, $8 million per matches Sean Payton's salary, which is the highest in the NFL.
