I had one years ago; never had a problem with it. The worst thing was that on occasion, if you were on a tee that was really close to another tee, it might think you were on a different hole. This didn't happen often, though, so it was only a minor inconvenience. IIRC, the battery life was supposed to be good enough to get two complete rounds out of it before it needed to be recharged, but I found out early enough that it had to be recharged before every round. I think I remember the price being quite reasonable.

I now use a Leopold hand-held device and love it.

I question how anyone is going to be able to differentiate between simply removing a loose impediment in a bunker and improving a player's lie. I fear a steady stream of whiny tour players — I hear there is such a thing, though I've never met one (wink wink) — taking 15 minutes to remove six grains of sand so their lie is nice and neat.

We've all seen bunkers that make the desert look manicured, so personally, I'm damn sure going to do whatever it takes to make sure hitting out of bunker doesn't make the sole of my club look like I dragged it behind my car on the way to the course.

Best yardage device I've seen (at some Florida resort, I forget which one) was a little LCD window on the back of the cart's roof, like a miniature ticker, that gave the yardage to the hole. Could peek at that and pull a club in one motion, instead of craning your head back into the cart to look at a glare-covered GPS screen.

That's another rule that I wouldn't be surprised to see the PGA Tour take a pass on. Won't look good on TV to see a pro tinkering with stuff in a bunker, plus when on Tour (when conditions are good) are the lies in bunkers not perfect anyway? And part of any Tour broadcast is a the shout-out to Superintendent Johnson for the great course presentation, can't be throwing him under the mower for that tiny pebble in the bunker on 13.
