Does lcjjdnh even work in the biz? I doubt it, but it's easy to point out what journalists should be doing from your couch.

The correct answer is "Just because."

Do you play pro sports? But it is easy to point out what pro athletes should be doing from the press box.

I'm sorry but you are either intentionally doing this -- like poking a stick in the lion's cage -- for fun or you're just clueless.

    Which is it?

But on a serious note: the people who are in charge (SID's and other university officials) have already determined the rules.

The No. 1 rule: NO CHEERING IN THE PRESS BOX.

I suggest you ask the Clemson SID why he acted as he did. Or perhaps he already explained it to you?

and why should it be? Oh, it's a work environment. The players are working, too. Why don't we disallow cheering altogether so that they can concentrate.

I think of it as playing devils advocate. Do I think it should be allowed? No, but I'm presenting the other side of the argument for good discussion.

Nice way to avoid the question. Why do you want cheering in the press box? As noted, the groups most involved with college and NFL coverage has established a "no-cheer zone," and I'm imagining similar groups in MLB, NHL and NBA have established the same thing. But do enjoy your man points and the home version of our game ...

I haven't ever said I want cheering in the press box, not even close.

Why are you being a stick in the mud on the issue? Do you think the prevailing policy of not allowing cheering helped shape reporters' attitudes toward it?

    This

And in high school, your AD acts as the SID.

You don't have a place for my writer to sit, then guess what, if I see one cloud in the sky, or a 1% chance of rain, get ready to call that game in.

All writers need in high school is a roof, chair and a tabletop.

And I have no problem with a high school worker giving a cheer if the team scores. These people have a much deeper background with the kids on the field than a college or pro team. Just so long as the high schoolers don't turn into the USC Band which chimes something after every play.

Well, that's a relief. We struggled for good discussion until you got here.
