Sounds too much like Podunk for my tastes. I can't believe an NCAA Tournament coach did that.

and being a true fan of the blue bird of cocksuckery, this man knows what podunk really is.

Oh, come on Oz. All college radio broadcasters are ferocious homers and 90 percent of 'em have been with the program far longer than any coach. They travel with the teams, they're part of the show. It's not an adversarial relationship. They were probably the first friendly faces Seth saw.

The same goes with radio announcers in the pros. They are paid by the teams to be homers.

Not there, but I sure understand it. I was thrilled for VCU, and want Duke to lose every game.

I was in a major-college press box the day BC defeated Notre Dame on that last-second FG by a kicker named Gordon (I think) in 1993. The place went absolutely-freaking batshit, the biggest cheer of the day, until the announced the score in the stadium, and then the fans went crazy too.

Most college radio guys are paid by the school, or by the company that has the school's broadcasting rights. They're not impartial journalists, nor should we expect them to be. The best are objective, though, and when their teams sucks they're not afraid to say so.

On the few times I've been seated next to anyone from the Michigan Daily (student paper), I've had to give a death stare.

    Is death stare hyphenated?

I know you're paraphrasing, but you asked her why she was so bad?

I can accept the radio announcers hyping their team, they're part of the program. But it totally irritates me when they complain about every call that goes against their team.

When it comes to stringing college tournaments, I'm always cheering on the inside for the team I'm covering. I like money. Team keeps advancing = I keep getting paid. I could give a shit otherwise. Last year, I was stringing a women's college hockey tournament and covering Heavy Favorite U. A player for Big Underdog U whose name will not be mentioned scored four fucking goals to lead her team to victory, and in the process, put me out of $400 because that meant my services would not be needed for the championship game. And this year in a different sport, a loss by Team I'm Covering meant $300 less for the same reason.

I've had the same experience. There were four of them in the press box next to me and would not SHUT THE HELL UP.

That's understandable. When times are tight, I'm cheering on the inside for the playoffs to continue and for the team I'm covering to go on the road. Getting paid overtime and 40 cents/mile (and driving a Nissan), is my price for "loyalty".
