Did I write that the threat wasn't real? Do I have a stutter when I type?

Doesn't pain me in the least. If someone only drives 30 miles a day and spends 40K on a car when a 10K car would do just fine, that's their business. But now that you'll be fueling your car with coal instead of cleaner-burning gas, my lungs are offended.

Well, I'm not Ann Romney and I'm not taking gubmint assistance to make my house payments so I'm not sure what you mean.

Whew! That's a relief! I thought you were talking to me; but you were actually talking to the guy who bought the car for $40,000 :)

So you don't write off your mortgage interest?

Sure I do but of course that's not even in the same galaxy as what Obama is doing with GM and the Volt.

I certainly hope you're smart enough to realize this.

It's unfair to say "... Obama is doing with GM and the Volt."

The tax credit isn't for the Volt. It's for all plug-in electric vehicles. The government is providing incentive for the production and purchase of hybrids and electrics. They're not doing it just for Volts.

It's a lot like the government providing incentive for the purchase of houses, by handing out tax deductions for mortgages.

Granted - one's a credit; one's a deduction. Otherwise, I fail to see the difference when it comes to the government manipulating the tax code to reinforce certain behaviors. Please - enlighten me ...

The difference is, Obama is takng tax money and giving it to a favored company. No one is taking money from you when they use a mortgage exemption.

If you aren't intelligent enough to understand this I can't help you.

And how much does the government give oil companies to "research" alternative fuels each year?

I'll say it again: The tax credit isn't for the Volt or for GM. It's for all plug-in electrics.

And moreso, the Government has been handing out tax credits for hybrids and electrics since at least 2005. ... not to mention many regions giving hybrids and electrics special commuter lane access.

GM got a $85 billion bailout from the Federal government (the rest of us go bankrupt when our business is no longer viable), of which we are on track (American taxpayers) to eat at least $25 billion. The estimated loss on the deal keeps going up.

This is about much more than a tax credit that subsidizes your car at everyone else's expense or the political agenda being played out with the government-run auto company. It's the fact that NONE of that should have ever been an albatross that was hung on America.
