Because the sun has been proven to have burned hotter over the past few years. But dumb fuckers think that something that burns at a surface temperature of 5600 degrees centigrade can't possibly burn at 5700 degrees or 5800 degrees despite evidence that it can, and that it just recently completed such a cycle thanks to solar flare activity.

What do you suppose the sun burning at 200 degrees centigrade more might mean here on earth? A degree, maybe two? Only someone engaged in complete dumbfuckery would think the sun's temperature changing could have no effect here on earth. Your welcome to include yourself in the category. In fact, it's pretty much all I've seen you engage in.

"Over the last 30 years of global warming, the sun has shown a slight cooling trend. Sun and climate are going in opposite directions. This has led a number of scientists independently concluding that the sun cannot be the cause of recent global warming.

One of the most common and persistent climate myths is that the sun is the cause. This argument is made by cherry picking the data - showing past periods when sun and climate move together but ignoring the last few decades when the two diverge."

The Prius was created before wasteful government subsidies and interference in our markets, and it counted on *gasp* consumer demand, not political patronage, for its success. No surprise that it has spawned imitators. Successful products find producers who are eager to satisfy MARKET DEMAND.

An idea that goes back to the 1990s that has been driven by market economics, not government patronage and politically appointed auto czars. ... as opposed to subsidized cars that don't sell without a substantial part of their cost foisted off on the rest of us by adding to our national debt.

It's why the Prius C was selling for a mark-up earlier this year when it first came out, but they have to resort to give away leases to make the Chevy Volt look like a success.

The Japanese government undoubtedly helped pay for the initial R and D on the Prius. And the Japanese government still incentivizes hybrid sales there.

    Yep.

When Jim Press was the top executive for Toyota USA, he said that the Japanese government never directly aided the company in the development of the Toyota Prius. Now, as president of Chrysler, his tune has changed. On March 20, Press told BusinessWeek, “The Japanese government paid for 100 percent of the development of the battery and hybrid system that went into the Toyota Prius.”

He was either misquoted or he was talking out of his ass. Click on my first link. He was quoted. Toyota denied it. And the Japanese government backed their denial.

Sosuke Tanaka, an official at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry: "Toyota developed its own technology," he told The Associated Press. "So please talk to Toyota about research and development."

This is from your own link:

"Toyota spokesman Paul Nolasco told the Associated Press that the comments made by Press are wholly untrue. "I can say 100 percent that Toyota received absolutely no support—no money, no grants— from the Japanese government for the development of the Prius," said Nolasco."

As for what you said earlier about the Japanese government still subsidizing hybrid sales there, that isn't true either. When they first went on sale in the 90s, they offered the equivalent of a $2500 consumer subsidy. It was stupid and unnecessary, though. And the Japanese government finally realized that there was no need to offer incentives to get people to buy cars they were buying anyhow. The subsidy was down to less than $1,000 by the mid 2000s and they dropped it entirely in 2007.

As to whether or not Toyota received government money to develop the Prius, it's an absurdity to think otherwise.
