Ha. I had no idea. He dumped the "gas guzzler" for a an "environmentally correct Ford Escape Hybrid," when he announced that he was running for president, according to the report.

Second life for Volt battery packs. Interesting application, especially post-Sandy.

Oh, damn, hundreds of Americans are being hired to staff a $1.7 billion factory to make electric cars. Yet another failure of capitalism.

When the political winds are blowing in the direction they are, Nissan is just making sure they check the green box to avoid any regulatory hammering from not building a useless car. Nissan sold 18,000 of these useless, golf carts on steroids last year.

Nissan sold more than 41,000 Altimas in March.

The EPA rates the Leaf as having a range of around 80 miles, which sounds like a lot until you realize a lot of commutes are 40-50 miles or more. An Altima will go 460 miles in the city or a bladder-busting 640 miles on the highway. A car useless for a long trip and useful only for running around a city is pointless.

But if that's what you want to spend your money on, knock yourself out. Just don't make me drive one and don't have the government prop up the sales with a $7,000 "tax credit" for buying one. The tax code's sole purpose should be to raise revenue to fund the government's operations, not change behavior to the "correct" way. Take away the tax credit and let the market decide.

I look forward to your impassioned plea to have the mortgage interest deduction struck down.

It was very wrong for President Bush to have ever signed off on that.
