Chris Benoit and family found dead

This isn't a storyline.
This is a real-life death of 3 people.

 

Breaking news, just stick with the facts. A seven-year-old kid is dead. That has nothing to do with wrestling bullshit.

 

Seriously. I could care less about the WWE, but the lede is rather embarrassing for the deaths of three people.

 

I'm sorry, but I saw nothing wrong with the lede. If it points out how McMahon has nuked the concept of good taste too many times to count, how he's trivalized death into a storyline and how the real fuckin thing has struck the organization yet again...fine by me.

I would have mentioned how the show went on after the deaths of other wrestlers too.

 

According to wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer:

Sources in the Fayette County Police Department are now working under the theory that Chris Benoit killed Nancy on Saturday, son Daniel on Sunday, and then killed himself earlier today.

Benoit was found dead in his weight room. Nancy was found dead in the lving room. Daniel was found dead in his bedroom, accordig t an unnamed source in the department.

Lt. Tommy Pope told ABC News "the instruments of death were located on the scene," but didn't specify what those were or where they were found. Pope said the department was not actively searching for any suspects outside the house.

 

So he lived in that house, with a 7-year-old, with the dead body of his wife in the living room?

Jeebus.

 

That is seriously fucked up.

 

That's fine for a follow-up, but that's of little concern to the readers of the AJC. Their local story is a family of three is dead and how did it happen? The wrestling stuff doesn't matter to most readers. That's another issue for another story.

 

KY, you may not wanna have a double murderer in your sidesaddle.

And that lead was atrocious.

 

And that's the focus of your story? Are you actually a journalist?

Horrible lede.

RIP Benoit, Nancy, and Daniel.

 

To be fair, it hasn't been proven yet that Benoit killed his wife and son. That's the theory now, and it could pan out, but a few hours ago the talk was carbon monoxide.

 

If there is a double murder and a suicide, would you really say Benoit RIP?
