Watch the last announcer hit they do and you'll see why I thought they hadn't mentioned them until just before the show ended.

Honestly, WWE is in a no win situation tomorrow night. If the details are true and Benoit murdered his family and committed suicide, you can't use the word "tribute." But, they can still do a memorial and can acknowledge what happened. I don't think there's any way they can do a straight show.

Or, they can just do another pre-taped show and try to start fresh next week. But, I'm going to guess that the fans are going to want a chance to express their grief at the whole situation, so, since tomorrow is taped, they can let the fans grieve live and edit out any tasteless happenings that might occur.

I'll just say, I'm glad it's not my decision to make, cuz I have no idea what to do.

  3. I dunno. The Virginia Tech massacre hit me a bit harder than this.

B/c the WWE exploits EVERYTHING in the interest of furthering the storyline. By mentioning it knows more details about the Benoit case but not revealing them, it's getting people to say "Hey, I'll have to go to wwe.com tomorrow and check for more details."

The only difference is this storyline is real, not fake.

No one at all would blame the WWE if it did nothing but issue a statement expressing its sadness over the deaths. But it had to go and write a hackeneyed story in which it teased more details to come. Reprehensible.

It's that 24 hour news cycle; even a massacre can move to the back of the mind.

How exactly is it different from someone memorializing a favorite actor or actress, or musician, or comedian (not a shot, 'jag) in their sigs? If it turns out Benoit did murder his family, sure, I'd think taking the stuff down would be in good taste. But as of right now, all we know is that the guy's dead, and he clearly meant something to some people. So how exactly is it so unbelievable that a fan would mourn the passing of his/her object of fandom?

Indeed. A couple of weeks ago I was running around the reservoir in New York and saw a guy wearing a Va. Tech t-shirt. It made me realize I hadn't thought about what happened up there in weeks -- which shamed me a little bit.

Because Richard Jeni and Natalie Portman are unequivocally not murderers?

I dunno. I heard Natalie once killed a guy with a trident.

    Just to watch him die.

As I said (and oddly, I didn't see the post with the murder-suicide report, might have made a difference), if this guy did murder his family, then it would be only appropriate to take the tributes down. But Zeke's first thought was that it's unbelievable that someone would get worked up about a wrestler. I can assure you I'll get a little worked up when a member of my favorite band dies, or when one of my favorite athletes dies. Natalie, of course, is not mortal.
