I believe someone's solo work says more about how he intends to present himself than his collaborations. Some artists (Elvis Costello, Tony Benett) have collaborated with such a wide spectrum of performers that it would make any definition impossible. Some one-offs (David Bowie and Bing Crosby) are just too bizarre to be useful.

Beyond that, I don't get why there would be some qualitative difference between a rapper being a batterer and an R&B singer being one.

Holy shit! It's 1995 all over again, someone said that's how I roll. Next thing you know you will be calling people biters and dickriders :).

Really! Have you never heard the terms biter and dickrider before? They were common back when I was between the ages of 14-19 which would be 93-98.

    (BTW that avatar kicks ass).

So does that make Coldplay singer Chris Martin every bit a member of the hip hop community? Worked with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, Shawty Lo ...

I thought about ignoring you and I have decided to respond.
You totally misread what I wrote, which isn't the first time. I guess that Double J. being Double J. who never saw a thread to which he didn't feel compelled to add his "learned thoughts," (whatever that means).
