  1. Double J - it's the double standard that I can't stomach. You basically say "I'll support Jones come hell or high water because he's my friend" but then take Bill Reiter to task for the same (and it seems that Reiter has more a connection and history to Whitlock than you have to Jones). You really don't see this hypocrisy do you?

Jones can say that Whitlock has no soul and likes Asian transvestite hookers and that's OK in your book because Jones is a friend and must have his reasons. Yet Bill can give his testimony about the Whitlock he knows and you insinuate that Bill doesn't know the real Whitlock because the on-line SportsJournalists.com version of Whitlock that you "know" came off as a schlub in your opinion.

  2. Oh and Double J the "tiny opinion" dig further proves the point. You really feel that your opinion is more valuable than other posters here on the board - don't you? Just as you feel that Jones is more valuable as a person and an writer than Jason Whitlock. Must be nice to feel that superior.

The "this place just didn't deserve their presence any longer" arrogance was not a poor choice of words on your part it was how you really feel. You're like the Chris Crocker of Chris Jones supporters.

You get worked up over stuff a lot, don't you?

Did I say that Bill Reiter shouldn't be allowed to support his friend?

Nope. In fact, I say the exact opposite.

    Reading comprehension. Getcha some. :D

They're grown men — with big but apparently incredibly fragile egos. There are plenty of "lessers" around here who have taken a lot more shit, personally and professionally, for a lot longer and they didn't take their ball and go home because they couldn't direct every conversation and have the masses sit at their feet in awe. The more you guys jump to their defense, the worse they sound. You're not doing them any favors.

I honestly don't feel that way. That's just my way of telling you that your opinion doesn't matter to me. See the difference?

Actually, it was indeed a poor choice of words on my part, and I apologize. But thanks for professing to know my mind. Or maybe you're just jealous that I have one?

As for the Chris Crocker reference, that's actually pretty funny. Too bad it misses the mark as widely as does anything else you've ever "contributed" around here.

  7. Double J - is that how you tell people they are allowed to support their friends? Funny. Sounds to me that you can support your friends unconditionally but others have to pass your investigation test first. Nothing wrong with my reading comprehension - maybe you should apologize for your poor choice of words again.

And Ace - I don't get worked up about this stuff. I really don't. I just find the hubris in some here amusing.

I've already acknowledged that I wasn't offering anything here other than a counterpoint. Others can defend Chris Jones as well as I can, if not better.

The truth is, he doesn't really need any of us to defend him anyway. I only do it because I feel like standing up for a friend. Is that a problem?

  9. Double J - for a guy who professes that my opinion means nothing to him - you sure do spend a lot of energy responding to those opinions.

For a guy who keeps saying that Chris Jones doesn't need you to defend him - you sure spend a lot of time defending him.

I don't expect you to understand the incongruity but I do look forward to your rationalization.

I guess I am really confused because I don't recall Jeff McGregor ever being here at SJ. I did a search for his name or some posts from him and there is nothing.

If he was never here how could he be run off?

    Well, duh. ::) :D

I'm sorry you have poor reading comprehension. :D

    Keep waiting. :)

As for me expending a lot of energy on this, it really doesn't take that much energy. But I recognize and appreciate the herculean effort you're obviously putting into it!

It wasn't a matter of fragile egos. They weren't expecting to be worshipped. It was about not wanting to deal with the repeated bullshit they faced on every thread in which they posted. Jones was targeted by some. Whitlock by some. These people you mentioned too. And it's unfortunate.
