Aside from Jewlery, the best reactions I’ve had in 28 years of marriage were nice purses and Uggs. One year just as they were getting popular but before they were ubiquitous, I got here a Michael Kors purse. Huge hit. The Uggs were a huge hit. Leather boots are a great gift. All not cheap.

I have to find something that says "I really appreciate you" for my former in-laws and I have $100. I am almost destined to fail.

Fill out one of those Angel Tree cards ... Those kids ask for anywhere from $300 to $100 worth of stuff.

It's a little late, but if you're still stumped there's always Dick in a Box.

Has Christmas Eve being on Sunday really screwed with anyone else's sense of time this Christmas?
We had a 2 p.m. deadline for the Christmas edition, so I did Sunday's and Monday's paper last night and took the day off. Ate dinner with my mother in law, relaxed and watched football, the whole bit.
Unfortunately, that means I'll have to work on Christmas Day to get Tuesday's section out.
I'm used to working about half a day on Christmas Eve and then having Christmas Day off, so this whole weekend it's felt like I'm a day ahead. It's kinda pissing me off.

Call out sick today. Nobody's gonna read Tuesday's paper anyway.

It seems like we've had three straight days of Christmas Eve. Shopping was easy today.

Office Christmas Party is a terrible movie. Even worse given the talent involved. A plot that was just obvious as all hell. A lead who just wasn't interesting or funny in TJ Miller, Bateman and Anniston seemed to have wandered onto the set by accident. You get the sense that a lot of these comedy movies filmed in Atlanta may as well be the same movie. Like most of the cast was killing time between other projects in Atlanta and they scraped together a plot. The party itself looked lame. And I don't know what the deal is with Kate McKinnon but she gets in a movie and they seem to make her the least funny person in the cast.

No trip to see my spreadout family. Just phone calls.

I'm still quarantining myself. Probably no longer contagious. Lymph nodes still swollen a bit.

No raise this year. Fucking asshole boss. GDIAF.

    Didn't even get this:

A couple of surprises this year.

Turns out my 90-year-old father (who broke his hip 2 weeks before Christmas and had to spend the holiday rehabbing in a skilled care facility) had purchased savings bonds for his three children from 1986-1990. Twenty-two $50 bonds for each child.

He gave them to us this year. Quick trip to treasurydirect.com reveals the 22 bonds are worth more than $2,200. Which comes in mighty handy, because although I did not buy a harpsichord, I did surprise my wife with a piano for our anniversary (which is three days before Christmas).
