    Yeah, it's not like Dickens ever published his stories in a newspaper to be read by the average reader.

    I'd take another angle on this.

    If the kid is toiling in a world where he's not being mentored, maybe tripping upon this thread would provide the idea that this is something that maybe you should not do.

    What I would say to the person who wrote this is to write creative columns, but do it with the idea of expanding your skill and show it to someone else in another department or another newspaper about it.

    Writers who try to write creative and different will often fail at their efforts, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth trying.

    It wasn't until I worked at my fourth newspaper where I learned anything about writing. My writing was decent in terms of grammar and proper style and I received some tips, but as far as learning about structure, it wasn't until I worked for a newspaper where writing was valued.
