Clerks II - Are you gonna see it?

I was dragged to it as well... I still laughed my ass off... I think anyone who has had an asshole boss can relate...

I definitely want to see Little Miss Sunshine... I think it's only at the arthouse theater and that's quite the hike from here...

 

I'm going to assume by "funnier" you meant "boring drivel with cardboard characters."

There was no one to root for in that movie. No one. And the ending was transparently Hollywood even by Hollywood standards.

There were worse ways to spend $10 and it was mindless entertainment. But it wasn't good.

 

I would spend $10 to watch Anne Hathaway do just about anything...

Sue me, I enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada... Based on the box office numbers, I'm not the only one... ;D

 

Well, yeah, she IS smokin hot. But you can see the JPEGs of her naked in that movie from last year for nothing!

And you're right the movie is doing killer business. To each his own!

 

Just came back from a matinee showing of "Clerks II" with my fiancee. Some thoughts ...

--Randal's go-karts stress release I could relate to. For me, it's been batting cages sometimes. Most often, it's miniature golf, which I just so happened to do with the fiancee after the movie.

--Dante's emotions watching Rosario dance I could relate to. And his fears about not being able to dance when the wedding comes, too, because she (my fiancee) can dance.

--Jay might be my favorite movie character -- of all-time. I'm serious. He never gets old. The Silence of the Lambs scene ... wow.

--The movie, in general, had me rolling from start to finish. Absolutely hilarious.

 

Exactly. If you expect great acting, great directing ... great, ahem, "movie-making" ... from this bunch, you're missing the point.

I walked out of the theatre very, very entertained. And that's good enough for me.

 

To say the acting was bad is a little silly, considering it's usually not great in Smith movies. I mean, the acting in the first Clerks was pretty bad (I still cringe at Dante's girlfriend saying 'See you when you get off then' twice in like 10 seconds at the end).
Probably the best acting in a Smith flick is Affleck in Chasing Amy, and that's Ben freakin' Affleck, not exactly known as the next Sidney Poitier.
I agree O'Halloran isn't a great actor, but he wasn't in the first one and he wasn't in Mallrats, so why would you expect any different?
Anderson I think nails Randal. Keep in mind, he is just a guy that Smith knew and he agreed to be in the first one because Smith thought he was funny. I know he does movie stuff now (directing and such), but he's not an actor and never has been. You can't expect too much from him.
I agree that Mrs. Smith shouldn't have had that big a role, though I thought she was servicable.
I also though it was their daughter looking at Dante throught the window.
Overall, I thought it was a good movie and well worth both your time and money. I'll be buying the deluxe DVD.

I was apparently the only SJ nerd in my theatre, because I was the only one laughing so hard at the whole ass-to-mouth discussion. ;D

I thought it was one of his better movies, in my opinion it didn't have as many inside jokes as Jay and Silent Bob did, but I got all those. Maybe Clerks II did too, but I just need to see it a few hundred more times to catch all of them.

 

Where do you think it ranks among Smith's movies?

I liked the film, but is it better than anything he's done other than Jersey Girl?
