People on my local Facebook groups just shit their pants because an evacuation warning text meant for the hills east of San Jose made it to our neck of the woods. Sky looks apocalyptic right now. Good news is it looks like triple digits might finally be over for a little while. It's weird, it's going to be mid 90s for the next week but that looks like a win after five-straight days of triple digits and a few of those reaching 110.

It was a little scary to see people posting the evacuation warnings. It became clear quickly it wasn't for my immediate area, which even so would not have affected me. I started thinking I was going to have to help my dad get his stuff together. Luckily it was just a glitch and no one around me needs to get out. But the sky looks eerie.

Just as crazy over here in Santa Cruz County. Ben Lomond and Bonny Doon evacuated and all the smoke from that and the blazes in Monterey County converging over the area. Don't even want to think what the Air Quality Index is like, but even if there was football, there'd be no practice today. One woman came through my line buying groceries for someone evacuated from Bonny Doon. Another had just finished helping her daughter rescue her horses.

And not to crossthread too much, but if FATUS comes out with a tweet saying it's because we didn't rake the forest, well, fuck him.

Well fuck. My dad is now under an evacuation warning. Crossing fingers it doesn't become an order. Good news is he doesn't have far to go if he needs to get out but scary.

Here's a list of resources: Santa Cruz County wildfire resources

And, here's a view of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It looks like this was taken from Main Beach or near Coconut Grove looking south. Also a link to more photos.

    Good God that is crazy!

I'm actually in Santa Clara County. We're getting it from both ends.

Holy crap! That looks like a colored photo from the 1890s. Saw that my ex-colleague has returned safely to his house in Vacaville, as the fire line held yesterday.

Again, hoping for a break in the weather and time for the firefighters to get things controlled.

Plus in that bowl that traps all the air. Imagine the Air Quality Index is off the charts.

For anyone else, some other twitter follows:
@ksbw - Local NBC/ABC affiliate, watching Santa Cruz and the Monterey County fires as well.
@nickmibarra , @reporterjess and @shmuel_thaler - Boots on the ground for the Santa Cruz Sentinel. First two are reporters, latter is one hell of a photographer.

Really hurts. Parents took us there often as kids. Nice trails, campgrounds and they used to have an area you could feed the deer, until they found out the deer were getting too dependent on being hand fed.'They had recently poured a lot of money into the offices and visitors center.
